Biography

Geoff is an innovator who engages effectively with new technical domains and deliver breakthrough solutions, and a development leader who builds sustainable teams and deliver results for the business. As Chartered Engineer, Geoff integrates the technical, professional and inter-personal skills necessary to develop and implement new engineering solutions. 

Geoff Kermode’s key qualifications are:

  • Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 2015
  • MEng, Special Engineering Programme, Brunel University, 1994-1999
  • Brunel Diploma in Professional Development, 1999

Geoff undertakes a variety of voluntary professional development activities to develop his own knowledge and skills, as well as help his fellow engineers and others in the research community:

  • IET Professional Review interviewer
  • IMechE MPDS in-company mentor
  • IET volunteer mentor
  • IET in-company mentor
  • Registered STEM Ambassador, STEMNET
  • Former IET representative on BSI Technical Committee MCE/12. Helps to develop international standards for the design and application of plain bearings.
  • Active member of IET Tribology Network co-ordinating committee, including chair, 2015-16. This group initiates and runs activities to promote awareness and understanding of Tribology across the engineering community. As chair, Geoff led and developed a committee of 8 senior engineers from industry and academia. In April 2016, he led the organisation of the inaugural New Challenges in Tribology, a seminar specifically for engineers in industry, and chaired the event. In March 2016 Geoff represented the IET at a Buckingham Palace reception marking the 50th anniversary of the Jost Report.
